There can be no two words about the fact that 2010 has been a great year for Hollywood in terms of brilliant movies made. Some of these have been smash hits at the box office while others were critically acclaimed. It is really hard to select a few from such good films, but I have made a list of top movies of 2010 according to their performance at the box office and the reception they got from the critics.
Inception
The caliber of the director Christopher Nolan is well known. The expectations of the people after a brilliant The Dark Night were obviously too high, but Nolan has not disappointed anyone with Inception. The film is wonderful and has a very strong star cast. It could be the most original film of the year.
The Social Network
With every movie he makes, David Fincher has shown great maturity and confidence. With Internet and social networking as its theme, the film has been greatly appreciated by the audience.
Hereafter
Given his stature, people always expect a miracle from Clint Eastwood which is not justifiable. But with Hereafter, Eastwood has triumphed as it reminds the audience of some of his greatest films he did earlier. The film is an absolute thriller and Matt Damon has done wonderfully well in the film.
Toy Story 3
The success of the earlier two sequels notwithstanding, Toy Story 3 has a fresh charm and appeal that was not lost on the audience. Woody and Buzz and the rest of the gang have to deal with the fact that Andy has gone out of the home to study in a college and they have been unceremoniously dumped outside a daycare center. It is a masterpiece by Pixar.
The Way Back
This film by Peter Weir is based upon the memoirs of Slavmoir Rawicz. The Way Back is a wonderful period film that has all the ingredients to grab an Oscar in 2011. Ed Harris stars along with Colin Farrell as soldiers escaping a labor camp with the help of a Russian girl. The film has a great cast, master director and a gripping subject.
